Fairlawn

This classic estate has been known as Fairlawn since it was built in 1894 for the late Charles Wacker. Mr. Wacker was President of the Chicago Planning Commission after the Chicago Fire. His plans included the Outer Drive, Union Station, Soldier Field, The Shedd Aquarium and of course the famous two leveled street named in his honor–Wacker Drive.

His attention to detail can be noted in that he personally inspected every board that went into the house. Rumor has is that you will not find a single knot in any of the wood anywhere in the house. The exterior columns are all made of cypress and still have not had to be replaced.
